The Color Wheel
6
Complimentary Colors Because they’re so opposite, they often work best when one is the main color and the other is an accent
8
Triads A set of 3 colors equidistant from each other always creates a triad of pleasing colors Primary triad is made up of red, yellow and blue (popular with children's products)
10
Split Complement Triads Choose a color from one side of the wheel, find its compliment directly across the wheel, but use the colors on each side of the complement
12
Analogous Colors Composed of those colors that are next to each other on the wheel
14
Shades and Tints Thus far we’ve been dealing with pure color (hue) The color wheel can be greatly expanded by adding black and white to various hues –Add black to a hue to create a shade –Add white to a hue to create a tint
15
Monochromatic Colors Composed of one hue with any number of its corresponding tints or shades. Contrast
16
Color Temperature Warm colors have some red or yellow in them –Come to the front Cool colors have some blue in them –Recede to the background
17
Assignment Do a Google image search for coloring pages abstract. Choose a picture and import it into moodle Using Gimp color the picture each of the color schemes we learned about in class. After coloring it upload it to moodle along with an explanation of each color scheme.
