2.   Understanding the human past is essential for understanding the present and shaping the future.  Learning about cultures, past and present, is essential for living in a diverse society and world.  Archaeology is a systematic way to learn about past cultures.  Stewardship of archaeological resources is everyone’s responsibility. 3.   Archaeology is very important to our understanding of the ancient world. Archaeologists are scientists who collect and study the remains of past human activity. Without archaeologists we would merely be guessing about what life was like long ago. Join together as 21 st Century Learners for an exciting trip back in time to investigate archaeology! Why this Unit?

4.   With members of your group, construct a "life-size" paper doll of an archaeologist in action. Dig through your notes of how you can label your archaeologist to show what you know about the role of an archaeologist. (E.g., over the brain, what would an archaeologist think?
