5 Past question In pairs brainstorm the question 2a –The Angel of the North shown in source C has been described as ‘Gateshead’s Winged Wonder’ and an ‘Inspired Vision’ –Why might people find art on such a scale inspirational?

6 Answers: peer assessment A one-sided answer is expected to this part of the question. You can mention other examples of art you do not have to restrict your answer to only what you see in the source. Reasons might include; The sheer scale and immense nature of such artworks make them impressive and thus inspiring. The symbolic nature of the Angel representing hope for the future and protection. It is unique, original & innovative. It is visible from long distances and has a huge impact upon the landscape. It reflects values and culture of the area and harks back to a history of industry and engineering. The artist, Antony Gormley, aimed to achieve that effect upon the viewer. Experiencing art within a public outdoor space can enhance the environment and provide an inspiring experience.

7 Marks 8-10 marks At least 3 points that are well made and show an awareness of the issue drawing on specific examples, which may include the source. Clear development of the points and discussion of the issues. 4-7 marks At least 2 points are made competently with some exemplification. Specific examples may include the source. A candidate who addresses more than two points without expansion or examples may feature at the lower end. 1-3 marks One well developed point or a list of undeveloped points. Exemplification may be weak. It may be totally or heavily reliant on the source.
