4 FRENCH REVOLUTION RENDEZVOUS Interest in French Revolution lead him to France in 1791. Here he met Annette Vallon, whom he had an affair with and had a daughter, Caroline (1792) out of wedlock. Hitting bankruptcy, William returned to England and did not return to France for another nine years.

5 Dorothy Wordsworth Became his moral support, housekeeper, and companion until her physical and mental decline in the 1830s. The following year he met Coleridge who he partnered with in Lyrical Ballads.

6 Other Facts on Wordsworth Finally returned to France in 1802 to visit Annette and Caroline. Married Mary Hutchinson and had 5 children by 1810 Lost two children in 1812 Wrote about himself in The Prelude, and revised it because he felt it was unprecedented for a poet to talk so much about himself Received an honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree in 1838 from Durham university Died in 1850
