2. The Program Seen as a need by industry and emergency services. Training Program Built on Nationally recognised industry standards and industry best practice that delivers nationally recognised qualifications. Developed in close consultation with industry experts. Has ultimately led to the development of the Bulk Tanker Emergency Responder Card.

3. Legal Requirement If your company transports dangerous goods there is a legal requirement under the Dangerous Goods Act for your company to: 1.Have a Transport Emergency Response Plan (TERP) that works 2.Ensure that all staff involved in the TERP are competently trained. 3.In line with NTC/Australian Transport Council Guidelines, you must exercise that TERP and it should be updated once per year. 4.To assist with this, the industry has developed a program for DG Transport Companies.

4. Program Structure Currently there are 2 courses within the program Course 1 - Course in Fuel Transportation Emergency Planning & Response Course 2 - Dangerous Goods Road Transport Emergency Recovery Operations Both courses are formally assessed against nationally endorsed competencies. To date 117 participants have attended Course 1 and 70 to Course 2

5. Course 1 Course in Fuel Transportation Emergency Planning & Response Deals with emergency response management from the companies/managers point of view. Focuses on managing the overall response on behalf of the company. (TERP) This is a 3 day course and deals with high level theoretical concepts. (National Accreditation Code: 80881ACT) and is based on the following competencies: PUAWER011B: Manage workplace emergency response teams; PMAOMIR430B: Conduct and assess incident exercises

Topics within Course 1 the nature of petroleum fuel road transport emergency incidents accessing dangerous goods information during emergency incidents hazmat plans and emergency response arrangements incident management principles and systems converting information into intelligence and effective action the emergency planning process documenting a transportation emergency response plan (TERP) developing and conducting emergency exercises training your staff and contractors about TERPs

7. Course 2 Dangerous Goods Road Transport Emergency Recovery Operations Concerned with the hands on response at the emergency site and involves different theoretical and practical skill sets. This is a 3 day course. ( National Accreditation Code: 80974ACT) and is based on the following competencies: TISC4001A Plan initial company response to a dangerous goods road transport emergency TISC4002A Conduct recovery operations at a dangerous goods road transport emergency site TISC4003A Complete initial clean up and recovery operations at a dangerous goods road transport emergency site.

Topics within Course 2 Part a: Being prepared for emergencies accidents do happen! understanding your company’s transportation emergency response plan (TERP) providing information about company vehicles during emergency incidents providing information about dangerous goods during emergency incidents understanding your role during an emergency incident Part b: Conducting response and recovery operations planning the company’s initial response conducting recovery operations at the site conducting the initial clean up
