2 This Week’s Objectives  Students will be assessed on the different types of government and principles of democracy at the end of the week for mastery.  Students will be expected to describe each of the pictures in terms of the principles of democracy and type of government that they each represent  Students will serve as a curator for a school-wide exhibit on the revolution in Egypt.

4 A group of young Egyptians used its nearly half a million Facebook members to bring frustrated citizens to the streets. Timeline of a Revolution

5 In response, Egyptian President Mubarak attempts to cut off the internet from the people, stopping protest.

7 The youth organizers announced a day of protest against the government, by spreading the news online and through the streets with fliers.

8 Tens of thousands of people filled the streets of Cairo and other cities to demand the end of the nearly 30-year rule of President Hosni Mubarak.

9 President Mubarak’s regime tried to crush the protesters with armed police and thugs.

10 The gov’t also cracked down on foreign media and human rights workers.

11  Military control of the square helped to limit violent clashes and peaceful crowds grew again.  Egypt's top military leaders announced it would respond to the demands of the protesters.

12 It is announced that Mubarak would step down and that the military would take control.

13 Egyptians, some who had been camped out in the streets for weeks protesting, celebrated.

14 Egyptians celebrate their new freedom, but begin the hard work of rebuilding their nation.
