5 Key Terms Aperture- Iris opening on lens; usually measured in F- Stops Beam Splitter- Optical Device within the camera that splits white light into the additive primary colors. (R.G.B.) Camcorder- A portable camera with the VTR or other recording device built into it. Camera Chain- The camera and associated electronic equipment consisting of the power supply, the sync generator, and the camera control unit. Pixel- Individual dots on a television screen.

6 Key Terms Iris- Adjustable lens opening mechanism. Viewfinder- A small video monitor or flat panel screen on a camera that display the image that camera is recording. EFP/ENG- Highly portable high-end self contained camera for Electronic Field Production /Electronic News Gathering. F-Stop- The scale of the lens indicating the aperture. The larger the F-Stop number; the smaller the aperture. The smaller the F-Stop number; the larger the aperture.

7 Optical Zoom versus Digital Zoom Optical Zoom- The elements inside the lens activate the change of angle of view. Digital Zoom- The center of the image is gradually magnified ; we perceive this gradual magnification as the image coming closer.

10 F-Stop The scale on the lens, indicating the aperture. The larger the f-stop number the smaller the aperture. The smaller the f-stop number, the larger the aperture.

11 Camera Control Unit Controls the actual functions of the camera Is an actual machine separate from the camera

12 Types of Microphones Shotgun- Directional Microphone utilized to pick up natural sounds. Used for sporting events and sitcoms. Handheld- Utilized when filming interviews often in field production. Lavaliere Microphone- Small microphones often utilized in studio production and field production.

13 Questions and Answers Camera- Can capture video, audio and photo data. Functions of the Camera- Iris, Focus, Audio Inputs and viewfinder. Iris- Controls the amount of lighting coming into the camera. Electronic News Gathering/ Electronic Field Production Audio Equipment- Problems that can occur in field and studio production.
