The EKAW series History –Started as „European Knowledge Acquisition Workshop“ in 1987 –From 1992 proceedings in LNCS, from 2000 denoted as conference –Originally annual, then each 1,5 year, most recently biannual - alternation with K-CAP conference oversea (originally KAW – „Banff workshop“) –Previous: EKAW 2004, Whittlebury Hall, UK Established community, friendly athmosphere, often location beyond big cities

Some statistics of EKAW 2006 119 full paper submissions –almost 60% increase compared to 2004! –all reviewed by at least 3 reviewers –discussion followed for all papers with uneven ratings 33 accepted (27.7% acceptance rate) –17 long and 16 short papers Posters/demos –12 rejected papers directly accepted for posters –further 17 posters/demos submitted at later stage –of which 9 (53%) were accepted, based on 2-3 reviews and (in some cases) reviewer discussion –altogether 21 posters/demos accepted 86 registered participants
