IEEE Sections Congress 2002 - Creating a Global Community Society/Region/Section/Chapter Relationship/Support20 Chapter Formation>What is a Chapter Members of a Chapter belong to IEEE Technical Societies A Chapter can include Many Societies Usually A Chapter is a part of a Section Possible to have Two or more Chapters of a Society in a Section Possible to have One Chapter of a Society with adjacent Section(s) Requires 12 Active Society Members to Form a Chapter Requires 10 Active Society Members per year to Continue A Chapter can consist of a Small Group or a Large Group A Chapter can cover a Small Area or a Large Area Chapter Members can be affiliated to one or more Companies Chapter Members can work in one or more office buildings

IEEE Sections Congress 2002 - Creating a Global Community Society/Region/Section/Chapter Relationship/Support21 Chapter Formation>Why Form a Chapter Create a Net-Working group with people of like Technical Ideas IEEE Grass Root Activities are at Chapter Level More Cohesiveness among Members Technical People Like to Discuss Technical Ideas Discussions are planned and implemented into Objectives Many Discoveries and Inventions start from Ideas Usually people with like Ideas form Groups (Chapters) Get Technical, Educational, Financial Resources from IEEE Get Technical and Financial Resources from Region Get Tech,Finac,Educl,Mgmt Resources from Technical Societies Sponsor/Co-Sponsor Technical and other Conferences Get Professional and Financial Resources from IEEE/USA

IEEE Sections Congress 2002 - Creating a Global Community Society/Region/Section/Chapter Relationship/Support22 Chapter Formation>How To Form a Chapter Twelve Members and Petition for a Chapter Members must belong to IEEE Technical Societies Ask the Section Chair to forward the Petition Chapter is formed in Two/Three Weeks Maintain a Minimum of Ten Society Members per year to Continue Conduct at least Two Technical Meetings in a Year Send Meeting Reports to IEEE and the Section Get Formation and Maintenance Funds from IEEE Get Society Resources and Launch Conferences Enjoy TAB, RAB, IEEE/USA Resources for Special Projects Enjoy Cohesion and Affinity among Members

IEEE Sections Congress 2002 - Creating a Global Community Society/Region/Section/Chapter Relationship/Support23 Chapter Formation>An Example Twenty IEEE Members for in two adjacent buildings in a small city away from main stream Eleven Members Belong to Computer Society and Nine Members belong to Communications Society These 20 Members have common interest on VLSI All Members belong to the same IEEE Section Both Computers and Communications Chapters Exist in the Section These 20 Members Can Form Another Chapter on VLSI The New VLSI Chapter will include members of Computer Society and Communications Society of the Section in a geographical area desired in the original petition

IEEE Sections Congress 2002 - Creating a Global Community Society/Region/Section/Chapter Relationship/Support24 IEEE Reach-Out and Move-On Program Continuation of a Section and/or a Chapter is Extremely Important Communication and Net-Working is the Best Way to continue Reach-Out the Chapters, Sections, Societies, Regions, Staff, Board Volunteers Key-Words include Respect and Integrity Cohesion among the net-workers makes it go easy Resolving Conflicts makes quicker flow Think about a Way of moving on a Task/Project Select a Method after reviewing the past history of similar Tasks/Projects Build a System to repeat the Task/Project for future years Create a Process with automatic feed back of Task/Project
