Multiply. 2x 3 (x 2 – x + 2) 2x 3 (x 2 – x + 2) = 2x 3 (x 2 ) + 2x 3 (– x) + 2x 3 (2) = 2x 5 – 2x 4 + 4x 3 Example

Consider (a + b)(c + d): FOILFOIL FOILFOIL “First” (a + b) (c + d) F “Outer” (a + b) (c + d) O “Inner” (a + b) (c + d) I “Last” L (a + b) (c + d) The product of the two binomials is the sum of these four products: (a + b)(c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd The FOIL Method Multiply the first terms together. Multiply the outer terms together. Multiply the inner terms together. Multiply the last terms together. product ac product ad product bc product bd
