Is there only one Kind of particle in it?  Apple Juice may look like only one kind of matter, but it contains many kinds of particles all mixed together (including water particles, sugar particles, flavour particles, vitamin particles)

Pure Substances  Most examples of matter in everyday life contain more than one kind of particle; some matter, however, only contain one kind of particle  Some examples of pure substances include aluminum foil, table sugar, distilled water; all are made of just one kind of particle  Each aluminum particle is the same as every other aluminum particle; table sugar is only made up of sugar particles  A pure substance is a type of matter that contains only one kind of particle  Unlike distilled water, tap water is not a pure substance, because it contains water particles, and a number of other particles, too  Distilled water has had those other particles removed; it is “pure water”

Mixtures  When you stir a spoonful of sugar into a glass of distilled water, the sugar disappears, and the water tastes sweet  There are 2 kinds of particle in the glass; the sweetened water is not a pure substance anymore.  It is a mixture containing water and sugar particles; a mixture is made up of 2 or more pure substances mixed together
