Structures Shown AP projection to include the entire length of the femur from hip joint to knee joint or one joint per two films.

Check for: A majority of the femur and either the knee or hip joint (the one closest to the injury or suspected pathology) should be on the 14 X17. Little or none of the lesser trochanter should be seen beyond the medial edge of the femur. Femoral neck (to see this the toes need to be inverted on AP proximal view). Check knee for rotation on distal view. Shielding: Be careful!! Orthopedic appliance should be seen from tip to end
