4 Small Group Small groups utilize two well researched and successful curricula: Second Step and Stages. Second Steps provides students opportunities to learn skills to recognize feelings, control impulses, and increase empathy toward others. Stages helps students explore information pertaining to changes in their lives such as divorce, moving to a new home or school, birth of a sibling, or a new teacher. Students meet in a small group for 30 minutes a week for 12 weeks. Groups are composed of 2 – 4 students in the same grade, and meet at a time selected by their teacher. Groups are led by a Student Services Assistant who meets weekly for supervision and instruction with an Elementary School Counselor.

5 Classroom Presentation A Student Services Specialist presents the Second Step curriculum in each classroom for students in Kindergarten through Third grade. All students receive training to enhance their ability to use positive problem solving strategies.
