1 Meaningful Sentences 101

2 What is a meaingful sentence?
A meaningful sentence is one that uses context clues and synonyms to convey the meaning of a vocabulary word in the sentence.

3 To make a GREAT original meaningful sentence use one of the following techniques:
Synonym clue: sentence contains a word that means the same or nearly the same as the unknown word. (You should not choose a synonym that is unknown to you.) Antonym clue: sentence contains a word that means the opposite as the unknown word.

4 Techniques: Continued
Example clue: example of the word is used in the sentence Definition clue: definition of the word is used in the sentence. (Do NOT use “word, or definition” in the sentence.) You only use one of these techniques per vocabulary word.

6 Your original meaningful sentences CAN NOT have any of the following:
CAN NOT start with I, He, She, We, They Any sentence that has these words will not receive credit!

7 I was ostracized in the class.
For example: The vocabulary word is: ostracize What NOT to do: I was ostracized in the class.

8 What you should do: Synonym clue:
Chad felt ostracized, left out, when he had to sit alone in the cafeteria. Antonym clue: Courtney worried that her friends would ostracize her, but instead they group included her.

9 Example clue: The boy, who had been ostracized from his friends because he had been punished, wished he could have joined them in the game. Definition Clue: A vote had been taken to ostracize the criminal, and he had to be immediately excluded from the group.

10 Reminders for writing meaningful sentences:
Use all vocabulary words from each unit to write meaningful sentence Only one word per sentence (You should have 20 sentences.) Underline or highlight the vocab word You must use correct grammar, capitalization and punctuation Vocabulary words must be spelled correctly and used correctly.
