2 Bellringer (15 min) You have just been assigned a study to critique its ethics. You must decide what, if any, ethical issues arise with each of these studies. One group member presents a one-minute argument to the class about your findings.

13 Freudian Theory: 3 Parts of the Mind Id: unconscious instincts and desires – Based on the pleasure principle – EAT, SLEEP AND PEE RIIIGHT NOOOW! – NO THINKING – JUST DOING

14 Freudian Theory: 3 Parts of the Mind Superego: Morality, or sense of right and wrong. – Makes you feel guilty when you do something bad

15 Freudian Theory: 3 Parts of the Mind Ego: Balances the Id and the ego with reality – Based on the reality principle: – Sometimes being selfish and impulsive can hurt us in the long run – Sometimes we need to address our needs and forget our guilt – COMMON CONFUSION – EGO IS NOT “YOU”

16 The Situation ID: Stuff the food in your pocket into your face, go to the bathroom without asking and fall asleep in the hall. SUPEREGO: It is only right to wait until the end of class. We need to learn so we can succeed! EGO: Realistically, I can use one of my bathroom passes now and splash some water in my face in the bathroom to wake up. I’ll eat when I get home
