Take out your C,E, R write up 1.Make your claim about Mr. Adams’s death. 2. Write down at least 3 pieces of evidence that support your claim. ●This data must be accurate! 3. Provide reasoning that explains why you used the evidence you did to determine the "best". Switch with your neighbor.

3 colored pencils Claim = Red Evidence = Green Reasoning = Blue Underline with proper content with the proper color Refer to your rubric and grade your partner’s conclusion Final score out of 12

Example ❧ Animal killed Mr. Adams because he wanted Eric owed Animal money. Animal has pink hair. Natural pink hair is not possible (unless you are a Muppet) so it’s very likely to be Animal’s. Pink hair was found in Mr. Adams house near his body. When attacked the victim puts up a struggle, as a result hair from the attacker can be found near the victim. Animal’s bank account increased on the same day for the exact amount Eric owed him, the exact amount that was reported missing from his wallet. When someone pays back a debt many times the person owed will deposit the money into their won account for the same or similar amount.

Score your new paper using the rubric Claim Evidence Reasoning No Attempt (0) points Claim inaccurate Incorrect incomplete Accurate but incomplete Scientifically correct and complete All Inappropriate or does not support claim or no evidence Some inappropriate evidence some insufficient Sufficient evidence but some may be inappropriate to claim Some appropriate evidence some in appropriate Incorrect ideas link evidence and reasoning Some attempt is made but evidence and underlying principles have missing gaps Evidence has scientific claim and no attempt to explain why the evidence supports the claim All ideas needed to link claim by scientific principles and explain evidence have been established

Total all the points you awarded you can do points in quarters (3.25; 2.75) 3.75 2.25 3.0 3.75 2.25 3.0 9.0 Final Score Peer

On Peer Paper ❧ Place your score ❧ Write your name ❧ Justify your score for each category ❧ I’m not anticipating many 12’s as we are just learning how to write this ❧ Don’t worry about our friends score or “being nice” we are here to help improve ❧ Make sure your comments can help the individual not tear them down

Scientific Method ❧ Observation: information obtained by using your senses ❧ Example: Eric’s body was found because it was observed ❧ Research: Check to see if this has been done/studied ❧ Example: I told you that this crime has not been seen before ❧ Question: Who Killed Mr. Adams and Why? ❧ Hypothesis: Depending on your own take ❧ Can it change? ❧ Did it change? ❧ Procedure: Steps taken to answer your question ❧ Example: looking at all the lab stations ❧ Data Analysis: examine all the evidence ❧ Example: Debate ❧ Conclusions: ❧ Example: Just wrote ❧ Report Results: Share your knowledge

Vocabulary ❧ Variable: ❧ Manipulated variable: that causes a change in another, the one that you control ❧ Responding variable: that changes in response to another, is what happens as a result of the experiment ❧ Model: a representation of an object or event. ❧ Mass: the quantity of matter in an object (kg) ❧ Volume: how much space an object takes (m 3 or mL) ❧ Density: is the ratio of an object's mass to it's volume D M V

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DENSITY?

Update your TOC Call Activity: Density Learning Target: I can explain the concept of density

DENSITY Lab safety http://www.teachertube.com/video/science-lab-safety- video-rap-194405http://www.teachertube.com/video/science-lab-safety- video-rap-194405 Get into your groups at a table first Lab Roles within the group In your groups of four divide into pairs One pair will see what sinks and floats with solid/liquid One pair will see what sinks and floats with both liquids Decide on roles Create a table with your hypothesis

Materials ❧ Solids: ❧ Hex nut ❧ Chalk ❧ Lego ❧ Paper clip ❧ Pencil ❧ Cork ❧ Nail ❧ Rock ❧ Liquids: ❧ Corn oil ❧ Corn Syrup ❧ Baby Oil ❧ Isopropyl Alcohol ❧ DI Water

Create two tables: Liquid v Solid

Create two tables: Liquid V Liquid Baby oil Corn Syrup X

Your Goal ❧ With the materials provided you will create a density column.
