Reading: The Beatles John Lennon, Paul MacCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison started a pop group called by the strange name of “the Beatles”, in Liverpool in 1962.At first they seemed to be just one among the many pop groups looking for fame in England in those years. But they had talent and style; they offered something quite different from the others.They brought about a great revolution in music during the Sixties. They wrote both the tune and the lyrics of their songs. After their first hit record, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1964, they became the heroes of millions of teen-agers both in Europe and America. Their concerts attracted thousands ans thousands of boys and girls. The first time they went to the USA, thier appearance on a TV show had 73 millions viewers (an unequalled record). 50.000 young people turned up for a concert taking place in the theatre which had 2.000 seats only. Their hair and dress style shocked at first; but soon teen-agers took after them.Hair grew longer and longer, clothes changed from conventional to unconventional.
