04/06/2016 Centre of Mass LO: to be able to define and find the centre of mass for symmetrical and asymmetrical objects

Toppling over Ireland.... Drifting 04/06/2016

Finding the centre of mass 04/06/2016 Definition: The Centre of mass of an object is the point at which all the mass of the object is centred.

04/06/2016 Finding the Centre of Mass Q. How would you find the centre of mass of this object? Suspend it from a pin and use a plumbline to draw vertical line downwards. Repeat this from a second point. The centre of mass is where the lines intersect

04/06/2016 Find the centre of mass with an A4 piece of paper Then check this using a plumb line Cut an unsymmetrical shape and a find the centre of mass Make an object with the plastercine and find the centre of mass. Use the centre of mass to predict which way the object will fall when you tilt it

04/06/2016Stability 1. Centre of mass is within the wheelbase – no problem! 2. Centre of mass is directly above the edge of the wheelbase –car is on the point of toppling 3. Car falls over because the centre of mass is outside of the wheelbase

Stability Why is stability in these objects important? How is the stability of them improved? –Formula 1 car –Childs high chair –Double decker bus –tractor 04/06/2016
