1 4th grade PUBERTY LESSON

2 What is puberty? The teenage years are also called adolescence. During this time, the teenager will see the greatest amount of growth in height and weight. Adolescence is a time for growth spurts and puberty changes. An adolescent may grow several inches in several months followed by a period of very slow growth, then have another growth spurt. Changes with puberty may occur gradually or several signs may become visible at the same time.

3 GIRLS Girls experience puberty as a sequence of events, but their pubertal changes usually begin before boys of the same age. Each girl is different and may progress through these changes differently. The following are average ages that changes may occur: Growth increases between 10 to 14 years: Weight: 15 to 55 pounds. 4 BOYS Growth increases between 12 to 16 years: Weight: 15 to 65 pounds

5 PUBERTY and HYGIENE A LOT HAPPENS TO YOUR BODY DURING PUBERTY.
You may find yourself with oily hair. Think – pair – share: What can you do about it? Wash your hair every other day or every day

6 PUBERTY and HYGIENE Sweat and body odor Perspiration, or sweat, comes from sweat glands that you've always had in your body. But thanks to puberty, these glands not only become more active than before, they also begin to secrete different chemicals into the sweat that has a stronger smelling odor. You might notice this odor under your arms in your armpits. What are steps you can do regarding body odor? 1. Take showers or baths regularly 2. wear clean clothes. 3. wear deodorant (cover up) or anti persperant (stop sweat)
