Recent Activities Ongoing Updates to TBWG Website  Transport Canada hosts TBWG website  Additions to online library  TBWG newsletter online  Updates to membership directory TBWG Website Usage Statistics  January – July 2009 Average 17,044 page hits (562/day)  January – July 2008 Average 15,408 page hits (506/day)  Increase in traffic of 10%

Current Activities TBWG Website Improvements  Contract underway to improve website and Online Border Infrastructure Compendium (OBIC)  Automating trade and traffic data input  Adding new search and ranking functions  Allowing for multi-year data  Allowing for export of data to Excel format  Eliminating password protection/login for OBIC  Updating coding to meet Transport Canada IT standards  Regular updates on-hold until work and testing completed  Improved website online by December 2009

Discussion Border Infrastructure Coordination Mechanisms Recommendations for new bi-national mechanism to coordinate border infrastructure and/or trade corridors (e.g. Brookings; U.S. & Canadian Chambers of Commerce; Council of the Federation) Currently, Canada Border Services Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. General Services Administration coordinate & share information as needed with each other and provinces/states/municipalities Transport Canada coordinates with Ontario, Michigan DOT and U.S DOT on Detroit River International Crossing States and provinces coordinate border related transportation infrastructure TBWG a primary forum for bi-national multi-agency information exchange and consultation Regional organizations (e.g. International Mobility and Trade Corridor) coordinate at regional level Both Canada and U.S. making significant investments in border infrastructure

7. Questions/Discussion  Is there a problem with border infrastructure coordination?  If so, what is the problem?  Can the TBWG’s role be improved?  Can the TBWG Border Infrastructure Coordination Subcommittee’s role be improved?  Is a new mechanism needed?
