~Number of heartbeats per minute ~Typically expressed as beats per minute (BPM) ~HR varies as the body's need for oxygen changes (during exercise or sleep)
3
Carotid Artery Radial Pulse
4
6 Second Check 1. Find Pulse 2. Count # of beats in 6 seconds 3. Multiply that number by 10 ~JUST ADD A ZERO! Example: # beats = 17 HR = 170
5
RHR = Resting Heart Rate ~Measured when at COMPLETE rest (before getting out of bed) ~ Distance runners = as low as 50-60 BPM MHR = Maximum Heart Rate 220 - Age = MHR 220 - 14 = 206 BPM THR = Target Heart Rate MHR X 70-85% (multiply MHR by.7 -.85) 206 X.7 = 144 or 206 X.85 = 175 THR = 144-175 BPM
