Presentation on theme: "The Force of Gravity. May the Force be with you.."— Presentation transcript:
The Force of Gravity. May the Force be with you.
What is Gravity? Gravity is a property of matter. Gravity is a force of attraction
Every object pulls every other object toward it. The more matter (molecules) an object contains the harder it pulls.
The closer an object is to another the harder it pulls.
The harder an object pulls other objects, the heavier it is said to be. Mass directly affects gravity. The more mass it has, the harder it will pull
Earth Gravity. The earth is millions of times heavier than any object near to or upon its surface; so it draws every such object toward it.
Why does Earth gravity never change? The reason why gravity on Earth never changes is because the mass of the Earth never changes.
What if there were no gravity on Earth? This would turn out to be a pretty bad day. Without gravity, the air in the atmosphere has no reason to hang around, and it would immediately leap into space Without an atmosphere, any living thing would die immediately and anything liquid would boil away into space.
Connecting weight and gravity Mass vs. Weight Video Everything weighs less on the Moon because the mass of the Moon is smaller than the mass of the Earth. The more mass an object in space has, the more gravitation pull there is. How much will you weigh on the objects in space?
