8 Piera Tortora - UNECE Statistical Division Slide 811-13 September, 2006 Surveys (2)  An Example: India  Method: Recall Interview (1 week)  No use of standard classifications  Sample: 18,591 households spread over 6 selected States  70% of the respondents residing in rural areas  18% of the respondents were of age less than 6 years  87% of the women reported that they participated in the household decision making  Out of 168 hours, male spent on average about 42 hours in paid activities as compared to only about 19 hours by females
