7. I. Capacity Development Different trainings and partnership discussions were organized to build farmers and extension workers skills and knowledge on improved legume technologies focusing chickpea and faba bean crops 1.Chickpea Planning workshop were made at Addis –The workshop was organized by N2Africa –The participants were ARARI, ADARC, GARC, MBI, Tsehay union, MBI, SNV, office of agriculture)

Capacity cont’ Partnership meeting/discussion at Gondar and Adet: –The discussion was among partners (GARC, N2Africa, SNV and Tsehay union at Gonder –At Adet, N2Africa, World Vision- Ethiopia, Cooperative office, District Administrative office and Trade and transport office were participated ) Adet Gondar

Capacity cont’ –Demo sites were adjusted to fit SNV and Tsehay union project sites (for Gondar) –Agreements were reached to create synergy –At the workshop the No. of sites and detail activities plan were developed and decided (30 demo sites at Dembia and G/zuiria districts (Gonder ARC) –Ten at Enemay (Adet ARC) and 100 adaptation sites for Gonder and 50 for Adet were planned) –Chick pea adaptation of Adet (Enemay) is already sown (8ha).

31. III. Input Supply Major Input supplied by the project were improved seed, inoculants and fertilizer. Input demands from the target groups were first identified and communicated with suppliers and then purchased. Inoculants was purchased from MBI and Holetta research center. Basic chickpea seed variety (Arerti)and fertilizer (DAP ) were purchased from Tsehay union (for Gonder case). For the faba bean the recommended variety (Hachalu) and inoculants (FB-4) were not found at market and used moti variety and ----instead (Gondar case).

Input Supply cont’ Faba bean seed was purchased from Arsi-Balie areas (Wolki and Moti variety ) by respective research Centers Seed, fertilizer and inoculants were distributed based on the research centers recommendation For chickpea seed rate = 120kg/ha fertilizer DAP=50kg/ha Inoculants= 500gm/ha For faba bean seed rate = 180kg/ha at Gondar and 200 kg/ha at Adet fertilizer DAP=50kg/ha at Gondar and 100 kg/ha at Adet Inoculants= 500gm/ha

42. IV. Market linkage Market linkage for chickpea Market linkage was created for community seed producers Discussion was made with the participant farmers, Tsehay union, office of seed inspection, district office of agriculture and GARC Main agreements reached during discussion on chickpea were –Tsehay farmer’s cooperative union will purchase the produced chickpea seed by giving 15% premium price from the market price. –However, their field must pass the inspection criteria.

43. Market linkage cont’ –North Gondar office of seed inspection will do field inspection –Office of agriculture will follow up and ensures the implementation of seed production based on the requirement and the full packages. –GARC will provide seed, training and technical backup –Office of cooperative will create market linkage with Tsehay union.
