ASENT_PRISM.PPT Introduction ASENT performs operating failure rate calculations using the following methods: MIL-HDBK-217 F, F-1, F-2, Bellcore TR-332, Issue 6, and Telcordia SR-332, Issue 1. Non-operating failure rate calculations are performed using the RAC commercial practices method. Owners of RAC’s PRISM tool can get considerable lift from ASENT’s bi-directional interface to PRISM. In this mode, PRISM is invoked from ASENT’s Reliability Manager and used as a calculation engine. ASENT is used for building the product tree, defining parts, reporting, and other analyses.

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Introduction

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Important Information! The interface between ASENT and PRISM allows users to easily import the product tree structure and parts data for a project from ASENT. Prediction results from PRISM can then be exported back to ASENT. ASENT is then used for generating reports and performing downstream analyses (FMECA, Maintainability) that use the PRISM failure rate prediction results. Warning: In order for the interface to work properly, the product tree structure should only be modified in ASENT. Also, parts should be added to the part library in ASENT, not directly into PRISM. If you do not follow this process then the linkage between ASENT project data and PRISM is destroyed!!!!

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Invoking the Reliability Manager To invoke the Reliability Manager merely right-click on a project and select the Reliability Manager menu option.

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Reliability Mgr. Displays product tree

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Invoke PRISM from the Utilities menu ASENT will detect the PRISM software if it is installed on your computer. If it is, then the ‘Invoke PRISM’ option will be selectable from the Utilities drop-down menu. In the Reliability Manager, click on the Utilities menu option and then click on ‘Invoke PRISM’ from the drop-down menu.

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Importing ASENT data into PRISM Click the OK button Click the OK button if you are going into PRISM for the first time, for this project. If you have already gone into PRISM once for this project, but you have made changes to the product tree in ASENT, then also click OK. Click the Cancel button If you have already gone into PRISM once for this project, and you have NOT made changes to the product tree in ASENT, then click the Cancel button and ASENT will immediately launch PRISM for your project.

ASENT_PRISM.PPT PRISM tool is invoked from ASENT ASENT creates or updates the corresponding PRISM project data and then invokes the PRISM tool. After failure rates are calculated and saved in PRISM then the user is asked if he wants to export the results to ASENT.

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Exporting PRISM results to ASENT

ASENT_PRISM.PPT Results from PRISM appear in ASENT The failure rates that were calculated using PRISM are exported to ASENT where they are available to the entire suite of tools found in ASENT. Reliability Prediction reports can be generated in ASENT. Also, these failure rates are readily available for other analyses such as FMECA, Testability, and Maintainability that will be performed in ASENT. This data can also be passed to the Logistics LSAR database via ASENT’s LSAR Interface.
