3 Western Art 1500’s-1800’s Before the Abstract Style, art was created using logic and perspective in an attempt to reproduce visible reality.

5 Abstract- Impressionism  Abstract art has its origins in the Impressionist Movement Monet, Impression Sunrise

6 Photography and impressionism  Photography invented 1839  Impressionism style is born 1870  The ability to stop time/ motion in a photograph allowed the artists to paint in a way that had never been done before.

10  By the end of the 19th century many artists felt a need to create a new kind of art which would encompass the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy.

11 Abstract Art  wide catagory that contains many art forms.  any art that doesn't try to realistically portray something, and instead uses texture, colors, shapes or space to create a composition is considered Abstract Art.

19  Most modern art can be considered abstract in some form because abstraction became a liberating idea that sent art into many new directions at the beginning of the 20th century, ideas that emphasized the artists interpretation of their experiences and their own internal selves.

20  The significance of abstract art lies in the "art experience."  Before abstract art, art was focused on realism, but now, abstract art is not only about "seeing" but also "feeling."
