4 Art History: How does art tell a story? Toulouse-Lautrec was a printmaker that made posters to communicate information about specific events. Printmaking with images was a breakthrough in technology during his life time. Let us take a look at a website for the San Diego Museum of Art: http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/lautrec. html http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/lautrec. html http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/lautrec. html For the history of Lithography visit: http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/Glossary.html#LIT HOGRAPHY http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/Glossary.html#LIT HOGRAPHY http://www.sandiegomuseum.org/lautrec/Glossary.html#LIT HOGRAPHY In the print shown here, what information is communicated to us? Standards covered include 5 & 6: The students will research the website using self-guided learning to explore the life and prints of Toulouse-Lautrec. The students will use this knowledge to problem solve and design a print to communicate and idea using technology.

5 Criticism: How does art tell a story? Let us take a look at a website for Keith Haring http://www.haringkids.com/master_act_color.htm Keith Haring is a contemporary artist that uses symbols and colors to communicate ideas in his work. Explore his website paying attention to the sections: Keith and Art. Notice how he used colors, bold lines and shapes. Think about how you can communicate an idea using these ideas in your print. Look at the poster section under art and think about what idea you want to communicate. For example: Family, Friends, Fun, Celebration, Helping Others and more! To view the Keith Haring lesson plan: http://66.113.241.131/lessons/envs/live/htdocs/lesson7.htm http://66.113.241.131/lessons/envs/live/htdocs/lesson7.htm Standards covered include 5 & 6: The students will research the website using self-guided learning to explore the life and posters of Keith Haring. The students will use this knowledge to problem solve and design a print to communicate and idea using technology.

6 Art Making: What message do I want to send to the world? Think about how you can communicate an idea using what you learned from Toulouse-Lautrec and Keith Haring. Create a digital print using only a few words and bright bold colors and lines. You may use Photoshop or Kidpix programs. We will hang these posters throughout the school so: Send a positive message to the world!
