2 Information  The unities were invented by Aristotle (335 BCE)  They are used to define what is a proper tragedy and what is not  They are also known as: classical unities, Aristotelian unities and three unities

3 Unity One  The first unity is action  A play should have one main action that it follows, with no or few subplots  The play should have one main focus

4 Unity Two  The second unity is place  A play should cover a single physical space and should not attempt to compress geography, nor should the stage represent more than one place  A play should only have one setting

5 Unity Three  The third unity is time  The action in a play should take place over no more than 24 hours  Everything that needs to happen must be within the 24 hours
