How to Make a Circle Graph Rudd Middle School Pam Bowman

A circle graph is used to compare parts of a whole. Information can be shown--such as the results from a poll. Class surveys could be taken to find out favorite movies or favorite toppings on a pizza.

Class Survey Example survey: Movie A 5 votes Movie B 10 votes Movie C 15 votes

Steps to make a circle graph. 1. Add to get the total of your survey. 5 10 +15 30

2. Make a ratio. Target area / Total area Movie A 5 votes 5/30 Movie B 10 votes10/30 Movie C 15 votes15/30

3. Divide RatioDecimal Movie A 5/30= 5÷30=0.166 Movie B 10/30=10÷30=0.333 Movie C 15/30=15÷30=0.500

4. Round to two (2) decimal places. RatioDecimal2 places Movie A 5/30=0.166=0.17 Movie B 10/30=0.333=0.33 Movie C 15/30=0.500=0.50

5. Write the percent. Percent Movie A 5/30= 0.166= 0.17= 17% Movie B 10/30= 0.333= 0.33= 33% Movie C 15/30= 0.500= 0.50= 50%

6. Multiply the rounded decimal by 360°. Movie A 0.17x 360°= 61.2° Movie B 0.33x 360° =119° Movie C 0.50x 360°=180°

Make a circle graph. Make a point on your paper. Draw a circle with a compass. Draw a radius. Use a protractor to measure the degrees.

Make a circle graph. 1.. Make a point. 2. Draw a circle. 3. Draw a radius

4. Use a protractor to measure the degrees. Don’t just guess! Then label the parts of the circle. Make a circle graph.
