8 Way To Help Your Child Read with your child everyday and discuss the text – ask them lots of questions. Make sure you are reading a variety of genres and styles, and using classic texts/poetry, so they get used to the language choices and layout. Link what they do to the wider world. They need to know certain terms and ideas, but they must also be able to apply them in different contexts. Encourage your child to express and develop their opinion. If they believe something, can they give you a reason?
