5 Challenges for School Year HHFKA Requirements The new federal requirements meant that we had to serve certain food items whether or not the customer wanted it. Fruits and vegetables were a requirement at extra cost to the program Declining Participation With the declining population, we also experienced a decline in participation. This was mostly felt at Greywolf Elementary school. The rest of the schools were able to closely maintain the meals that we projected in the spring of 2012 in our budget. Keeping our Customer Interest Keeping the students interested in what we were serving was sometimes difficult. We started made to order Deli Bar at the Middle School, did stir fry bar at both secondary schools and started a scrambled egg bar at the Middle School for breakfast. These programs were successful and we have continued to offer them again this year. Challenges

15 In Closing and looking ahead 2012-2013 was a hard year due to all the changes that were required. Now that we have that out of the way, we can look for ways to improve the food service program, supporting the Sequim School District in their needs and serving the school and Sequim Community. We have been here over 30 years and want to continue this important partnership with the Sequim School District. We want to be involved in the exciting future that Sequim has planned for the school and community.
