6 HISTORY In the song, each verse mentions two things that he would do for love, followed by one thing that he will not do. Each mention of "that" is a reference to the particular promise that he made earlier in the same verse. The four times he says, “I won’t do that” refers to: forget the way you feel right now forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight do it better than I do it with you, so long stop dreaming of you every night of my life At the end of the song, the female vocalist says two more things he will do: You'll see that it's time to move on You'll be screwing around Of course Meat Loaf responds with, “I won’t do that!” I’ll Do Anything for Love (But I Wont Do That) What is “that”? They assumed the song might cause some confusion, but due to the nature of Meat Loaf’s music it might not seem out of the norm.
