4 Proof: The Play and the Film The Adaptation The play opened in May of 2000 at Center Stage II and ran until January of 2003 at the Walter Kerr Theater on Broadway. Writer – David Auburn Director – Daniel Sullivan In May 2002 Proof opened at the Donmar Warehouse Theater. May 9 to June 15, 2002 John Madden – Director Gwyneth Paltrow as Catherine. For the 2005 film adaptation, the producers take on John Madden as director, David Auburn as one of the screen writers, along with Rebecca Miller, and Gwyneth Paltrow plays the lead.

Also like Driving Miss Daisy, Proof has an extended cast beyond the few who were part of the stage production. Proof, unlike Driving Miss Daisy, did not have actors with name recognition during its off-Broadway and Broadway runs.
