2.  Mary ran quickly  Which word is “quickly” modifying??  Adverb: a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb  Adverbs can make your writing more exciting so get pumped!!

3.  An adverb can answer at least one out of five questions: How? When? Where? To what extent? Why?  Example: “Mary ran quickly”   How did Mary run? She ran quickly   When did Mary run? She ran yesterday

4. - Many adverbs, but not all, end with –ly - The words “not” and “never” are ALWAYS adverbs - Ex: Yvonne would not eat her sandwich - (not modifies eat) - Be careful not to confuse good and well!

5.  Preposition  example: Carol usually gets up early.(Adverb= early)  Infinitives  I’m saving my money to buy a car. (Adverb= to buy a car)

6.  What’s its job??  Punctuation requirements: semicolon followed by a comma used when separating two main clauses.  The list includes- accordinly, also, besides, consequently, conversely, finally, furthermore, hence, however, indded, instead, likewise, meanwhile, moreover, nevertheless, next, nonetheless, otherwise, similarly, still, subsequently, then, therefore, thus
