Eutrophication leads to… Accelerated enrichment by artificial means produces population explosions of phytoplankton, a.k.a. algal blooms Algae exceed carrying capacity and die Bacterial decomposition creates high BOD Compounded by low DO due to summer water temps Hypoxic or even anoxic conditions
