2 The Basics Hurricanes form at sea, have winds of 74mph or greater, and are tracked from the minute they begin to form Because of their destructive power, never ignore a hurricane evacuation order.

6 Other Health Concerns Immunizations  Most are unnecessary Mosquitoes  Protect yourself with DEET, screen doors, and long sleeves and pants. Mental Health  Access your emotions

7 Safety Precautions After the Storm While returning home:  Make sure the area is safe  Watch for debris  Account for all family members

10 Clean-up! Dry and disinfect the home  Soap and water  1 CUP BLEACH TO FIVE GALLONS OF WATER!  Steam clean carpets

12 Hazards After the Storm Utility Hazards  Turn off power source Fire Hazards  Avoid using candles Carbon Monoxide Hazards  Keep generators and pressure washers outside

13 Other Dangers Dangerous materials  May be hidden or buried Animals and mosquitoes  Disoriented  Hiding  PROTECT YOURSELF!

14 Keep in Mind… Hurricanes are dangerous storms but with the information provided, you should be able to:  Prepare for the storm  Protect yourself from the dangers posed  Survive to tell your hurricane story!
