2  The nervous system is responsible for sending, receiving, and processing nerve impulses through the body. All the organs and muscles rely upon nerves to function. The nervous system is made of your brain, spinal cord, nerves, and neurons in your body. WHAT IS THE NERVOUS SYSTEM?

3  The brain controls all your conscious and automatic actions and sensations in all parts of your body like your thoughts, feelings, memories, heartbeat, blood pressure, body temperature, breathing rate and senses. THE BRAIN

4  The spinal cord is part of your nervous system. It carries signals that control the body’s movements and sensations. It’s inside the column of bones called the spine or spinal column. THE SPINAL CORD

5  The human nervous system consists of billions of nerve cells, plus supporting neuroglia cells. Neurons are able to respond to stimuli (such as touch, sound, light. They conduct impulses, and communicate which each other (and with other types of cells like muscle cells... NEURONS

6  The nervous system must interact with all the other body systems in a human body. The nervous system works by controlling several organs of the body. The brain then receives information and adjusts the signals accordingly. The nervous system works with skeletal system, cardiovascular system, muscular system, endocrine system, lymphatic system, respiratory system, digestive system, reproductive system, urinary system, and the integumentary system. The nervous systems sends signals to the brains to help each of these systems function HOW DOES THE NERVOUS SYSTEM WORK WITH OTHER SYSTEMS?

7  The description of the path a nerve travels throughout the body from the stimulus to the response begin with the brain. The brain sends a message to the source via the nerve impulses, which involves the neurons. The neurons use the Nero-transmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that is released at the neuromuscular junction which triggers a muscle action, which then leads to a contraction. An example of this would be if you were to cut yourself with glass. Your immediate response would be to jerk your hand away and hold it tight. This is your brain sending a message through your body to the site of the injury THE PATH A NERVE IMPULSE TRAVELS THROUGHOUT YOUR BODY FROM STIMULUS TO RESPONSE

8  There are more nerve cells in the human brain than there are stars in the Milky Way.  - If we lined up all the neurons in our body it would be around 600 miles long.  - There are 100 billion neurons in your brain alone.  - A newborn baby's brain grows almost 3 times during the course of its first year.  - The left side of human brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body  A New born baby loses about half of their nerve cells before they are born FACTS ABOUT THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
