3 Specific Course Requirements Bi 8 Bi 9 Bi 117 Bi 122 Bi/CNS 150 Ch 41abc Introduction to Molecular Biology Cell Biology Developmental Biology Genetics Neurobiology Organic Chemistry Students who place out of Bi 8 or Bi 9 must pass Bi/Ch 111 (Biochemistry of Gene Expression) or Bi/Ch 113 (Biochemistry of the Cell), respectively.

6 Institute Writing & Communication Requirement Track 1 Track 2 Students produce a research or review paper. Oral presentation opportunities must be arranged: SURF talks, journal clubs, and group meeting presentations are acceptable. Students complete brief written and oral assignments for a variety of audiences. Examples: experimental protocols, encyclopedia articles, document revision, persuasive article, etc. Bi 24 – Technical Communication for Biologists

7 Distribution Requirement Students must take six courses in two “streams”: sets of related courses in particular subfields of biology. Four courses must be taken on grades; two courses must be at least 9 units. Biochemistry Genetics Bi/Ch 110*, Bi/Ch 111*, Bi/Ch 113*, Bi 125, Bi 129, Bi/Ch 132*, Bi/Ch 170, Bi/Ch 174, Bi/Ch 205, Bi/Ch 211 Bi 123*, Bi 125, ESE/Bi 166, ESE/Bi 168, Bi 180*, Bi 188, Bi 190 * Courses cannot be double-counted for other requirements.
