And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Matt 27:46) And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Mark 15:34) To the Chief Musician. Set to 'The Deer of the Dawn.' A Psalm of David. My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, And from the words of My groaning? (Psalms 22:1)

1) God must have forsaken Jesus on the cross. 2) Jesus did not know why God had forsaken Him.

1) God must have forsaken Jesus on the cross? 2) Jesus did not know why God had forsaken Him?

(Ps 22:1; Matt 27:46; Mk 15:34)

Where in the Bible do we actually read of God actually abandoning Jesus? Doesn’t it seems strange that God would send His only Son into the world to do what He did on the cross – only to then turn His back on Him while He actually did it?

Then I said, 'Behold, I have come-- In the volume of the book it is written of Me-- To do Your will, O God. (Heb 10:7) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Phil 2:8) But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here. (John 14:31) though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, (Heb 5:8-9)

Where in the Bible do we actually read of God actually abandoning Jesus? Doesn’t it seems strange that God would send His only Son into the world to do what He did on the cross – only to then turn His back on Him while He actually did it? Why would Jesus have to ask of God, “Why have You forsaken Me?”

He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." (Matt 26:39) … just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Matt 20:28) The quotation of Psalm 40:6-8 by the Hebrew writer should prove that the Christ knew what He had come to do (Hebrews 10:5-8).

Isaiah 53:4-6; Jesus took the punishment we deserved for our iniquities, not the literal guilt for sin. Isaiah 53:8-12; Jesus was made an offering for sin, but He was not guilty. Leviticus 16:1-22; The sacrifice was NOT guilty of the sins it bore. Romans 5:18; 8:3-4; Hebrews 7:26-28; 9:11-14; 10:4-18. Nowhere do the Scriptures teach that Jesus took our sins upon Himself so that, since He was sin-laden for a moment, God turned away from Him.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” The Septuagint translates the Hebrew word in ninety- four places in Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, where a sin-offering is meant; where our version should translate the word not sin, but an offering for sin.

Jesus came into the world claiming to be the Son of God (the Messiah). Where were the angels (Psalm 91:11-12)? Where was God (Isaiah 52:13)? Why did He forsake Him? The explanation is that before men Jesus appeared forsaken by God. He did not literally and actually forsake Him. Matthew 26:53; John 10:17-18; Isaiah 53:4-5

Psalm 22:6-8; What the people did not know is that Christ DID commit Himself to the Lord! Psalm 22:9-11; The Psalmist hopes in God! Psalm 22:19-21; Cry for deliverance! Compare Psalm 10:1; 13:1-4 Compare also Psalm 35:1-2; 38:1-2; with Psalm 22:20-22 On the cross, Jesus was taking on the cry of the Psalm for Himself. (The Psalm was His!)

(The Psalm was His!) Jesus was crying for deliverance! Jesus was crying for deliverance!

“Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.”

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
