2 WHAT LIFESTYLE IS BEING PROMOTED IN THE FOLLOWING MAGAZINES? What words would you associate with the lifestyle that has been promoted?

Write the correct spelling for those you have got wrong otherwise it’s pointless!

5 Examiner’s Mark Scheme Explains two generic features. Shows thorough understanding of appropriate generic conventions. Ideas supported by terminology. Precise and accurate use of terminology. Ideas expressed clearly and fluently in well structured sentences with few, if any, errors of spelling, punctuation and grammar. Generic means typical, usual, conventional. Generic features would be the parts of magazines which you find in all of them.

7 Explain two ways the extract fits into the genre of lifestyle magazines. Use examples from the extract. Select a feature you can discuss specifically in relation to lifestyle magazines. Avoid listing conventional features without linking.

8 Explain two ways the extract fits into the genre of lifestyle magazines. Use examples from the extract. How to answer the question? Point : Identify the generic conventional feature, using the words ‘lifestyle magazine’ and avoiding saying ‘men’s magazine’, health magazine etc… Evidence : Describe the conventional feature, ensuring you mention what PAGE you are referring to also. Explanation : Explain how the feature fits the genre of lifestyle magazines.

9 Explain two ways the extract fits into the genre of lifestyle magazines. Use examples from the extract. How to answer the question? Point : The ‘Yoga Journal’ magazine fits into the genre of lifestyle magazines with the generic convention of the central image. Evidence : In this example on the FRONT COVER the central image shows a woman in a challenging yoga pose in a natural setting. Explanation : This central image fits the genre of lifestyle magazines because typically the image reflects the lifestyle which the magazine is centered around. In this case this magazine is about yoga and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and so the image is a yoga pose of a healthy looking, attractive young woman.
