Pink Dolphins By Kimberly Cheng

What are Pink Dolphins? Pink Dolphins are mammals. They belong to a sub-species of the Chinese White Dolphin, which is a member of the indo-pacific humpback dolphin family.

In danger! There is a approximate of 120 or less dolphins struggling to live near the Hong Kong harbor. There are many threats to the dolphins. One example is sea pollution, every day we dump a lot of waste into the sea.

Danger- Habitat loss The Pink Dolphins are loosing their homes rapidly because of constructions i.e. the new airport, Disney Land etc. All kinds of land reclamation.

Danger-Over Fishing and Boat Traffic There are no particular rule in Hong Kong that fishing is not allowed, therefore, not only fish but also dolphins are caught and killed. The boat traffic in Hong Kong is too busy. Dolphins can’t communicate properly and may get ran over by fast ships. They cannot live a happy and healthy life.

How can we help? To help we must first stop dumping all the waste into the sea. The plastic bags can be caught around the neck of the dolphin and kill it. Also we have to control the quality of the waste, treat the waste before dumping.

How can we help? Go to dolphin watches or eco trips. Learn more about Hong Kong’s Pink Dolphins and how to save them from extinctions.

Conserve the habitat Keep areas of the sea as an eco park, conservation zone. No fishing is allowed there. So dolphins can live and grow in numbers for our next generations to see.
