1 Informational Meeting October 3, 2011

2 Overview A partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools to prepare candidates for success in urban schools. UTPA is currently at several school sites. Any education major can apply to the UTPA and will be considered.

3 UTPA Offers: Year-long student teaching experience Two years of additional induction beyond the student teaching experience Financial assistance Emphasis on technology High-quality professional development Unique personal growth opportunities Enhanced curriculum

4 3 Years of Support from UTPA 2011-2012 School Year Application Process Cohort #3 Student Teaching Cohort #2 1 st Year of Teaching Cohort #1 2 nd Year of Teaching

5 Community Volunteer 20 hours are required in the Spring. – UTPA collaborates with several entities for you to choose from including: Oklahoma City Police Department City Rescue Mission Boys and Girls Club Taft Tutoring Program Mayflower Congregational Church Northwest Baptist Church

6 Enhanced Curriculum Classroom Management Working with English Language Learners Diversity training Oklahoma A+ Schools Methodology Teaching literacy Technology training Response to Intervention Working with parents and the community

7 Deadlines Applications are due Friday, October 14, by 5:00 p.m. Interviews will take place beginning the third week of October. The interview committee will be made up of several individuals from UCO and OKCPS. The results will be announced in November

8 Candidates must meet the same requirements as candidates outside the Academy. – 2.75 GPA – A “C” or better in all major coursework – Admitted to teacher education – Admitted to student teaching prior to second semester of clinical year – Meet Foreign Language requirement
