Although it is taught by most groups, baptism is given little eternal significance Of the seven baptisms mentioned in the New Testament we have seen that there is but one valid today--the baptism of the Great Commission, baptism for the remission of sins

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Ephesians 4:4, 5

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:15, 16

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:18, 19

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

Allowing the New Testament to define baptism for us, we have determined that it is an immersion in water

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? Acts 8:36

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Acts 10:47

Allowing the New Testament to define baptism for us, we have determined that it is an immersion in water Since there is only one, there can be no other “mode” nor any other element

We have also seen that baptism has purpose We noted that when God tells man what to do, how to do it, and the reason for doing it, all three aspects must be obeyed With baptism, we have all three

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: I Peter 3:21

Thus, God commands man to be baptized- It must be done God gives particulars concerning baptism (immersion in water)- It must be done in that fashion and no other God also gives purpose for it- It must be done for that purpose

The “one baptism” of the New Testament is the only action with the ability to put one “into Christ” We have seen that baptism puts one “into Christ” and studied the significance of being “in Christ”

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Romans 6:3

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Galatians 3:27

“The Sum of Thy Word is Truth”

The sum of thy word is truth; And every one of thy righteous ordinances endureth for ever. Psalm 119:160 (ASV)

Hearing “The Sum of Thy Word is Truth”

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

HearingFaith “The Sum of Thy Word is Truth”

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

HearingFaithRepentance “The Sum of Thy Word is Truth”

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32

And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
