Filtering Records Filter To have only the record or records that satisfy the criterion appear Filter by Selection The simplest type of filter for a value in a single field You first must give Access an example of the data you want by selecting the data within the table

Mass Changes Update Query Is a query that makes the same change to all the records satisfying a criterion Delete Query Is a query that will delete all the records satisfying the criteria entered in the query

Mass Changes Append Query Adds a group of records from one table to the end of another table Make-Table Query Adds records to a new table Action Query Adds, deletes, or changes data in a table

Validation Validation Rules Rules that a user must follow when entering the data Validation Text Is the message that will appear if a user violates the validation rule

Validation Required Field A field in which the user actually must enter data Range of Values Entries that lay between certain limits

Formatting Format To affect the way data appears in a field Format Symbol A special symbol to format a text data field

Specifying a Default Value Default Value A value that Access will display on the screen in a particular field before the user begins adding a record Is found in the FIELD PROPERTIES box under the GENERAL tab To specify a default value, enter the value in the Default Value property box

Creating a Lookup Field Lookup Field Allows the user to select from a list of values To change a field to a lookup field that selects from a list of values, use the Lookup Wizard data type.

Referential Integrity The property that ensures that the value in a foreign key must match that of another table’s primary key Foreign Key Is a field in one table who values are required to match the primary key of another table One-to-Many Relationships The type of relationship between two tables specified by the Relationships command

Cascade the Update/Delete Cascade the Delete Have Access allow the deletion but then automatically delete any one item related to initial deleted item Cascade the Update Have Access allow the update but then automatically make the corresponding change for any one item related to the initial item
