2 2 What is a discount? End of Slide A Discount is when a vendor reduces the price of goods to induce a customer to buy their product.

3 3 Example of a discount. End of Slide John plans to buy an iPad 2 directly from Apple Computers for $579. How much does he pay if JB High-Fi offer a discount of 5%? Percentage Paid =100%- 5%= 95% $ Paid = 95 100 x 579 = $550.05

4 4 What are successive discounts? End of Slide A successive discount occurs when a discounted item is further discounted.

5 5 Example of successive discounts. End of Show JC Electrical is offering a 10% discount and a further 5% to electrical tradesmen. Bob, an electrician tradesmen, spent $500. For the 1 st discount he pays 90%. For the 2 nd discount he pays 95%. Cash Paid = 90 100 x 95 100 x 500= $427.50 Not a 15% Discount
