1 Section 4-6 to 4-9, HCOP Officiating Manual Penalty Procedure

2 What do you do when you notice an infraction calling for a penalty? –Mentally Record the offender’s number and infraction –Raise the non-whistle hand straight up, hand open, fingers together. Whistle comes to the ready position. Penalty Procedure

3 –Blow whistle (with authority) when offending team gains possession and control of the puck –Come to a complete stop with arm still in the air –Pause to allow everyone to focus on you –Point out offender by extending the signaling arm with hand open and fingers together

4 Penalty Procedure –In a clear, calm, assertive voice, call out the offending player’s number, team colour and infraction –Go to the penalty box to report the infraction Select a route and adjust timing to stay clear of penalized player Keep all players in sight, skating backwards to the penalty box

7 Penalty Procedure –Report to the penalty timekeeper: Player’s number Team Colour Infraction Duration –Give the appropriate signal, and then skate away from the penalty box area, remaining clear of penalized players –If there is more than one infraction, you MUST signal all penalties; both at the point of the infraction AND at the penalty box
