5 C’s Comprehensive- focuses on the complete alignment of standards, curriculum, assessment, and instructional practice Collaborative- engages teachers in critical discussions at many levels Clarifying- brings meaning to what are often broad or vague loosely written standards Constructive- provides continuous, on-going development and refinement for growth and improvement Consistent- brings about equity in learning opportunities for all students

The insurance that curriculum objectives are specific and build one upon another, consistent vocabulary prerequisites are mastered, gaps are eliminated, and there is an increasing sophistication and rigor to teaching concepts, processes, and skills across the grades. Vertical alignment in a common goal met for all students after successful completion of each year.
