1 Key findings from our work. Even with a Early Childhood Council in place, systems are not integrated (mental health, health, education, parent supports). Spatial mismatch of resources and needs Service gaps exist in domains The issue of the “This confirms what we already knew” syndrome. There are harder to develop data and information gaps in services provided and therefore, the ability to apply this to inform action and decision making (ie lack of data on home-providers of child care and therefore less ability to act/change)

2 How can we extend this work locally? Build on partnerships and opportunities formed through the initiative to assist providers and decision makers in serving the areas where gaps have been identified  Denver Mayors Office of Education and Children (MOEC) - location of family, friends and neighbors providing home-based child care services to children  The Denver Mental Health Action Alliance  Teaming with the Colorado Children's Healthcare Access Program Use data to strengthen connectivity across early childhood domains.  Build conversation about the implications of demographic transitions  Find ways to make traditional domain specific data relevant to other areas (i.e. health data used by early care providers) Utilize the work that we started through the Initiative to go deeper in looking at specific gaps we’ve identified (ie perhaps do more localized examinations of particular geographic area or service area) Leverage relationships to turn the School Readiness Brief into a web-based dynamic site

3 What should NNIP do nationally? Synthesize the list of key findings from across all sites – look for commonality and elevate the issues. If the new administration really moves down the pipeline, play a monitoring role (similar to what sites are doing with LISC) Build on Bruner’s work and promote a set of “universal” indicators that can be easily replicated in other cities If possible, develop a “quick guide” for other sites to look at the issue.
