The standards and protocols used in communication By William Kemp

IrDA for Infrared IrDA stands for infrared data association, most computer’s, laptops and other communication devices are increasingly being manufactured with an Infrared port, infrared port are for sending data though infrared light waves, your normal TV remote uses an infrared light to send data to tell the TV to change channels, volume up/down, mute and etc. The large advantage with infrared technology is that you don’t need cables to send data between two devices, so if you want to print something off all you need to do is sit with you laptop next to the printer and your ready to print, most communication devices come with infrared ports making it much easier to interact with devices without having to use a cable, however with the current infrared ports, you have to be within a few feet of the infrared port in order for it to work.

Wireless access protocols Wireless access protocols are applications that run similar to web protocols HTTP, TCP and SSL. WAP are designed for small communication devices such as mobile phones, PDA’s and other pocket sized communication devices, WAP has been developed for mobile communication devices around the world, has of now WAP can surf the internet, get live updates and high-speed connection.

802.11 for WIFI In 1997 the institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) made the first WLAN standard and it was called 802.11(also known as WIFI), after the name of the group that was overseeing it’s development, over the years it’s been developed into 4 other subcategory 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g and 802.11n. 802.11n is the latest developed wireless connection, it supposedly to support over 100MBP/s amount of bandwidth with utilizing multiple wireless signals and antennas, also it has a much larger range on it due to it’s increased single intensity. Has of today most homes and businesses used this kind of WIFI connection has it’s the best out there, however it is expensive and can interfere with nearby 802.11g networks, luckily you won’t find many of these network types these days as production has stopped for the 8022.11g type of networks.

SMS protocols SMS stands for short message services, has you would of guessed it would be widely be used in mobiles phones, SMS protocols gives the ability to send and receive short alphanumeric messages to and from user to user without the need of an operator like in the old days. however an operated is still needed to control wireless services, because of SMS sending and receiving messages much quicker, easier and much more simpler it is used around the world, it was a revolution that changed the world.
