Bible 101 Bible 101 – The Books of the Law Genesis In the Beginning…

Bible 101 Noah enters the Ark Gen 7:1-10 How did God see that Noah was righteous? –Faithful for 100-120 years – the ark is built. Not a moral perfection God loves obedience, doesn’t require perfection List of the animals Noah would take on –7 clean (male and female) – 14 total Heb phrase here could be translated 3 pairs +1 –The one could have been for the sacrifice at the end I believe there were 14 – because for the most part the clean animals were your farm type animals and having 7 pairs would make it easier to get the farms and herds up and running faster… my opinion –In addition to providing for sacrifice and BBQ since meat is on the menu after the flood (9:3) –2 unclean (male and female) - 4 total How did Noah know the clean from unclean? –Who is writing Genesis? – Moses –Moses knows about clean vs. unclean »Read more about clean vs. unclean in Lev 11 and Duet 14 –The HS told Moses there were more clean than unclean »I suspect that Noah didn’t know or care – he didn’t gather them, they came to him. –7 of each bird (male and female) – 14 total There are clean and unclean birds but God didn’t distinguish here – hmm… –Vs. 8-9 two by two they went in.

Bible 101 Noah enters the Ark Vs. 10 - One week later God would cause it to rain –Why a week? Did it take a week to get the animals situated and the ark loaded? Imagine Noah’s neighbors –Weird when Noah started building –Got worse when He told them why he was building God is angry because we are evil? God will destroy us with what? Rain? A flood? What’s that? –No doubt Noah took some grief for that – mocking and such How would the neighbors have reacted when thousands of animals started showing up and milling about –Were they eating their grass and shrubs? –Pooping in their yards? Then the weirdest part… 2 by 2 they line up and start marching onto the ark… –Couldn’t you just see them standing there in their driveways staring

Bible 101 Faithful and consistant I also think It would have been a relief for Noah when the animals showed up. –For 100-120 years he had been ministering with no converts, no confirmation I can’t imagine being told to do something that would take 120 yrs. –Did he have periods of faithfulness where the work was easy and the burden was light –Did he have times where he doubted and didn’t do anything for months I know from last chapter 6 that He walked with God, but what was his walk like –Always faithful? Always consistent? –If it was, can we do it too? I suspect we can, These days we are in, these last days, they are supposed to be like the days of Noah. –I always thought that meant in weirdness –Could it also mean in that in these days: »those that walk with God are expected to be faithfully and consistently doing all that God commands? (6:22)

Bible 101 The Earth is flooded Gen 7:11-24 Vs. 11 - When did the flood happen? –600 th year of Noah’s life –1656 years after God created the earth –17 th day of the 2 nd month. (fall time frame? JFB and Edersheim) Before the flood there was a uniform climate How did it happen –Fountains of the great deep were opened- water from under the earth –Windows of heaven were opened- water canopy above the earth –Rained for 40 days/nights (960 straight hours) We have seen the damage a hurricane can do in only 12 hours of JUST rain and ocean surge

Bible 101 Effects of the flood When the flood started – as the rain was falling –Noah and his family and the chosen animals went on the ark vs. 16 says God closed them in –What did the other people do when the “rain” started First off I imagine they would have marveled at the rain – first time it had fallen –Did it start slowly and then build to a downpour? –They probably went to their homes and put dry clothes on and looked out the windows –Until the waters rose From there they would have moved to some type of higher ground –Hearing about the people from Ike that had to cut holes in their roofs to get out? Did they run (wade) to the ark? –Were there people outside the ark screaming and pounding to be let in? –Cant you hear them “I’m sorry Noah”, “I believe you Noah”, “help us Noah” It’s going to sound the sound the same in Hell –“I’m sorry God”, “I believe you God”, “Help us God” –but the door will be shut. Vs. 17 – 20 Eventually the water would have risen to the level of the highest ground available –Then People would have had to start swimming or treading water Vs. 21-24 –Elderly, infants, toddlers would have been the first to die –Eventually all flesh »Birds, cattle, beasts and bugs »Every man, woman and child »Everything that breathed on dry ground – DIED.

Bible 101 Faithful and consistent The flood, like the coming judgment was universal –Happened everywhere and included everyone If we as the church aren’t faithfully and consistently: –Walking with God –Doing His will –Like Noah, doing the things that point people to the one door that they must pass thru to be saved –Then imagine the unsaved people in your life pounding on the door of the ark screaming: As their judgement overtakes them…
